“We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it. That’s all.” – John Hughes, The Breakfast Club Script

I was a child of the 80’s, so when I saw this quote, I knew it fit perfectly (in my head!) to these protea flowers. I’m not sure why I tend to “personify” flowers (some are graceful, some exude strength), but when I look at these crazy, feathery petals and alien-looking stamen, it reminds of someone not afraid to be wild and different, someone who reveals their true colours and inner nature. I think we ARE all strange and odd in our own unique way — this is what beautifully makes us who we are. Some of us just happen to be better at showing it. Oh to be wild and free like the protea! ;)

  1. Strange but almost hypnotic, Neely. I want to see the secrets of the feathery ¿stamen? Is the fisrst photo a close up of the stamen or the petals? An exotic flower indeed. Great shots.
    Have a great day!

    • Thank you, Marianne! I believe the first image is of the feathery petals. The second image shows the stamen with a touch of pollen remaining. Have a wonderful day, too!

  2. Neely, I am a new follower to your blog. Nevertheless, I loved your photography and also the words describing it. How true that even if something is bold and wild, it still is beautiful! I have never seen these flowers before but the whole combination of colors is truly mesmerizing. Loved your shots, personal favorites would be 1 and 3. Have a good day.

    • Hello, Lakshmi! Thank you for following my blog and for your kind words about my photography! I truly believe there is beauty everywhere — we just need to realize it :) Thanks, again!

  3. These flowers are a good example that different can be beautiful and you really did them justice by the way they were captured. Well done!

Have something to say? Would love to hear it!
