I Dream of Fog

People who live in San Francisco and the Bay Area seem to have a love-hate relationship with fog.

If you catch it at the right time as the sun begins to appear, it has the most beautiful misty quality. It cools the city down on hot summer days, and for photographers, it makes for great pictures!

On the other hand, too many San Francisco foggy days cause summers to be miserably cold (winter coat in july?), and gray days almost year round in some parts of the city can be very depressing.

Whether you adore or despise the San Francisco fog, most natives have a special place in their heart for it. It’s lovingly called, “Karl the Fog,” who apparently has his own Twitter feed, Facebook page, Instagram account and LinkedIn profile. I’m not sure who first started this or runs these accounts, but they are pretty funny!

My favorite part of fog is when it starts to dissipate, and the sun gives the fog this soft, warm glow.

The misty cool feel on my face begins to fade as the air quickly changes.

Love the beautiful fog… How about you?

    • Thank you very much, Bre! I think there are different kinds of fog — some better than others, but the fog mixed with the sun — yes, very interesting! :)

  1. These are absolutely gorgeous. It’s so disheartening to hear people complain when they can’t shoot in the sunshine. But you’ve proven any weather can be gorgeous in its own. Love them all!

    • Thank you so much, Maxann! I really appreciate it and am so glad you liked the images! I once read somewhere that “shooting on the edges” of weather and time is often the best — like right before/after a storm, before/after the sun rises — but definitely being at the right place at the right time makes a huge difference. Thanks, again!

    • Thank you so much, Marianne! The first one is my favorite as well, and apparently, that spiderweb is getting lots of attention, too — even from the non-spider lovers :). Thanks, again!

Have something to say? Would love to hear it!
