macro monday | SOFT | No. 8 Little Teeth

Red Succulent | Neely Wang

This is the final image in my Macro Monday SOFT series. I love the soft, muted colors, but what really gets me are these little teeth on each petal. I wonder what they’re for and why these plants have them. A type of protection? If so, from what? Macro opens up a whole new wonderful world that is often missed in the hustle and bustle of life. It is in these tiny details that I see the care of the Creator for His creation, as well as His beautiful and very intentional design. Sometimes people ask me, “How do you know God exists?” But when I look at nature, all I can say is, “How can He not?” I once heard a quote by Charles Eames, one of the most respected and well-known mid-century designers. He said, “The details are not the details. They make the design.” I think this applies here as well. Any thoughts? I’d love to hear them!

      • ooo noooooo no no i DO like, there is No Like Button for me to use here! OR uhm I cannot find it on your site. :D

(there are a great many of your works that I like very much, I simply cannot tell you so by clicking ‘like’, as I cannot find such a feature–do you have one?)

        • I misunderstood :). Thanks, Elisa! Even so, it’s a reminder to me that not everyone is going to like my work and that’s okay! I actually took off the “show likes” portion off of my site for that very reason. I don’t want myself or others to be influenced by how few or how many likes there are. In my opinion, people should like or not like what they want regardless of how others feel about it. Nonetheless, apparently, there is still a way to like it next to the follow blog icons on the top left of the blog. If not, no worries :). Thanks for trying to clarify — I do appreciate it!

    • You’re so welcome, Patty! I’m so glad that the series has inspired you. Whenever I get in a creative rut, pulling out my macro works wonders!

  1. Well, I love the photo and I love the Eames quote. You have highlighted this creation to show us something that we should not take for granted.

  2. Another wonderful capture and a good reminder that the beauty surrounding us can and should be appreciated even if for a short moment. And always giving thanks to our even greater creator on high for gifting us such amazing elements of nature freely!!

    • Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing your thoughts! I really appreciate it! It’s easy for me to forget to give thanks to God for those little things — love how you said those things are given so “freely” — how true!

  3. Wonderful sharing,Neely! It is so true about detail and the beauty of nature! I love that color combinations, and how you approached this piece. It brings me peace this morning with all the things that I have been dealing with by myself. Sometime, we all need to sit back, and look around us in the nature. Then, all the things that you need to deal with will not be so hard anymore for that moment. ^_______^

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Ni! I’m so glad that this image could bring you some peace. I find nature so refreshing — it revives my soul — something as simple as a walk around the neighbourhood by myself can do so much. Thanks again!

Have something to say? Would love to hear it!
