I have always loved calligraphy, especially nowadays with all the beautiful hand lettering out there that graces envelopes and logos and chalkboards. My Type Board on Pinterest is filled with calligraphy pins. I love it even more so after I interviewed Alissa Mazzenga of Feast Fine Art and Calligraphy for my Meet the Artist Series. Although I have purchased calligraphy tips and gouache paint, I still don’t know the first thing about calligraphy. So when I saw this online class on Skillshare, The Art of Modern Calligraphy with Molly Jacques, I immediately signed up! If you’ve ever wanted to learn the basics of calligraphy, this looks to be a great intro class as Molly Jacques’ work is so pretty and fun. If you use this link, you can even get $10 off your first class (any class — it doesn’t have to even be this one)! The Art of Modern Calligraphy, which begins September 25, is only $10 with the link — a great deal (especially since she offers a $650 hand lettering and calligraphy class in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles)!

Skillshare, which I included in my Ten Ways to Learn Photography and Design on the Cheap post, is an online global community where you can learn unique skills from a variety of creatives. They have really cool classes like Food Photography: Playing with Your Food, Learn the Ins and Outs of Illustrator, and How to Start Your Fashion Company. Hopefully, I’ll repost what I’ve learned after the class…and after lots of practice, so I don’t completely embarrass myself. It’s always fun to learn something new — hope you join me!

  1. oooooooooo I can afford skillshare!!! it’s cheap enough ( for most points in my budget) to splurge on one or two every few months…allows me to test out new things to answer the do I really want to have this unfulfilled wish to create on my to-do list or not….thanks for the post!

    • Yes! It seems pretty affordable and gives you a great chance to try out something new! I like the classes they offer — they seem really interesting and fun. Please come back and let me know what you try! :)

    • You are too kind, Cornelia! I love learning new things and hope others can, too! Sometimes I get in a rut creatively and need to be inspired — I really love how we can get inspired by and teach one other.

Have something to say? Would love to hear it!
