This is Bluey. Bluey Dog is my youngest son’s most cherished companion. His grandmother gave it to him many Christmases ago when he was just starting to walk. It used to have a candy cane striped Christmas hat, but that hat is long gone after being dragged around the house, used to wipe many a tear, repeatedly spun through the washing machine, and having traveled the world with us. I took this picture when I was trying to figure out some of my camera settings for a Christmas photo and grabbed it as a prop, after it was once again found lovingly tossed on the floor. Even though this ragged tattered up dog is ready to be “replaced” (my mom even found an identical, but our son did not fall for that — it has since become Bluey’s long lost brother), I somehow love and have a soft spot for this little stuffed dog. It reminds me of the innocence and simplicity still found deep down in our kids, even though the world and time may try to change that. And this Christmas season, it especially reminds me to slow down, spend as much time as I can with those I love, and to remember Who and why we celebrate this special time in the first place.
So on that note, I wish you all the merriest of Christmases and the most joyful of New Years! I wish you cherished times with your family, friends, and loved ones, as well as true joy & hope in the coming year! See you all in 2013!
