Seattle Public Library

My sister, her husband and their two boys recently moved to Seattle, so we were very excited to visit them this summer and catch a glimpse of their “new world.”  There wasn’t much we definitely had to see while in Seattle, as we’d been there one other time before.  But one place I did want to check off my to-do list was the Seattle Public Library, designed by Dutch architect, Rem Koolhas.  My whole family thought I was a little kooky.  What’s so exciting about a library?  Is a quiet library really the best place to take four very loud and very hyper boys?  My dear sister graciously obliged and drove us there one rainy afternoon.  The kids had a blast going up one neon escalator after another, running through the red hall, and getting to peek over the edge at the very top.  I had a ball enjoying the architecture, the vivid colors and shooting all the stark angles.  It was truly a fun place to check out!

Anybody visit Seattle recently?   I’d love to hear about your favorite spots!  More Seattle pictures to come soon…

    • Thanks, Patty! It was a very fun and quirky library — definitely had a vibrant feel for a place that would usually be considered a bit sterile :)

  1. You’ve probably been to Pike Place Market. We recently did a food tour there that I’ll be posting next week! And a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island and back on a beautiful evening is worth the trip. The ciy glows, reflecting the sunset.

    • Thanks for all the ideas, Gracia! I have been to Pike Place, but never a food tour — that would be so much fun! And a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island sounds like a great idea! Thanks again!

  2. We performed at this library this summer. Amazing architecture… but yes, vibrant but sterile. The librarians, esp. Children’s librarians find it very un-children friendly in their section.

    • Oh that must have been fun performing there! Too bad about the un-friendly children’s section…it tends to happen whenever a place is trying to maintain that uber-modern look.

  3. Not Kooky .. I would be taking the same types of architectual pics! I did that in SL at various museums & these guards were looking at me funny …

    • Ha Ha — yeah, sometimes I get very self-conscious when I’m taking photos in such a public place — you never know what the “rules” are!

Have something to say? Would love to hear it!
